Next CVWOC event
02/02/2011 by G4USB.
Our next gathering will take place on 13th February and will take the form of a cruise terminating at The Eden Project where those silly enough can go ice skating [rather keep my legs in tact personally].
Meeting point is at Bodmin [see http://www.cvwoc.co.uk] for details.
Eden have the £5 for locals promotion running so entry [excluding skate] is £5 and this will give you a 12 month membership with as many visits as you like for the coming 12 months…….good value. If you want to skate you will need to book yourself see website above for more information.
Always a good day out.
See you there.
Swapmeet 2009 Report
21/04/2009 by G4USB.
Can hardly believe our luck really, what a blisteringly good day, wall to wall blue
sky and warm sunshine greeted us for the Easter Sunday Swapmeet this year. Im marked contrast the earlier March event in 2008 saw bitter easterly winds and snow flurries and no trace of even a glimmer of brightness to be found.
Needless to say even though we had bookings for every bit of table space in the hall ion the day it was so nice outside that everyone decided to set up their stall in the fresh air and even though this restricted our available parking space there proved to be enpugh room for everyone to enjoy the day without too much overcrowding.
Luckily now the health centre located next door to the hall provides a large parking area and this was soon to be quite full and remained so until the event came to a close quite naturally at around 3.00pm, all of a sudden there they were gone!
The usual mixed bag of vehicles attended including one very show prepared example ,fresh from its appearance at the Volksworld Show,I believe of a Brasillia. Two Ghias attended the dark one is for sale at I think £6k,numersous Beetles, Splits, Bats, T25, T4 and aT5. A few Type 3 cars were there too along with a smattering of water cooled stalwarts in Mk2 Golf, Mk3 Golf, Bora, Mk1 Cabriolets,Caddy Pick ups,Sciroccos etc.
Plenty of items changed hands and a few were really delighted to find something they have been looking for for ages.
Our caterers [sorry dont know your name] were kept busy all day and at one time had to pop to a local shop to top up supplies.
In line with mormal practice we did not charge for attendance of the swapmeet but asked for a donation for pour supported charities which once again this year are the Friends of Penhaligon and the HCPT Trust
Will we do another one in 2010, you bet it has proven to be so popular with everyone why would we not do one.

CVWOC Swapmeet - new video link added
16/02/2008 by G4USB.
Have just added a link to a you tube video clip that was produced at the
2006 Swapmeet [I know the year as my GT Beetle appears there]
The clip is interview styled and is from the Cornwall Culture Group.
Features Sam and Laura to name just two!
Well worth a click.
Don’t forget its Swapmeet time again on 22nd March at the same venue.

I have added a new page to the site.
Video Links
Have a look at some of them, they are either funny, VW linked
or maybe general interest. Or even all 3!
Will be adding more links over time so visit regularly to be
entertained.

Hello world!
15/09/2007 by G4USB.
Welcome to my new Blog.
Let’s make it a useful resource for both the Radio Amateur andhe Volkswagen Community in
Cornwall and further afield.
A place to check on what activities are planned and when and where they will be taking place.
A place to seek assistance with a problem no matter how small it is the irritation is great and an answer could be a few keystrokes away.
On a less upbeat note, be warned, this could happen to you!
My Rallye replica will not be seen again on the roads of Cornwall as it has been totally destroyed in an arson attack at my local garage in Four Lanes where it had already had a new supercharger, coil over suspension, tyres and wheels, uprated cam kit etc. fitted. Just the dashboard had to be changed and an MOT carried out, then this………………………..aaargh!
Yes, the garage is insured but have you tried convincing them that the 1980’s VW was worth over £5,000.00? Have managed to negotiate them to a £5k area as a maximum but am also looking to them to cover the cost of the cherished number plate, paid £499.00 for it and as the car was not taxed and MOT’d it is unlikely that I can retain it!!!!!! also, as it is a Classic Insurance policy the 9 months remaining still have to be paid for as there are no refunds for a Classic plan upon cancellation.
My reaction was ‘WHY ME’ but it could be any of us, you have been warned.
There seems to be more and more vandalism taking place than ever before. I have lived in the village for 20 years and with the exception of having a car broken into about 16 years ago with radio gear taken and a shed some 5 years ago with computer gear taken I have been left alone until recently. I have had spotlight smashed, aerials broken off, amateur radio aerials stolen and, most recently had the tax disc stolen from the screen of my beach buggy…..reported that to Camborne Police and were they interested? not even a little bit I had to almost insist that it be logged and a reference issued. At least now when they stop a car and it has my old disc with my cars registration on it it can be explained sufficiently to keep them happy.
Latest development is that the DVLA only deal in black & white, there is no grey area or latitude to take extenuating circumstances such as arson into account. Rukes it appears are rules and although they happily took my £499 for the use of C4USB the ruling is that it stays with the wreck as the car had not been licenced and MOT’d during the previous 12 month period. Even though it has been on SORN as required by law that makes no difference it has to have been used on the road, what a con! do you get your money refunded? not a chance. Imagine if you had purchased a really expensive plate costing thousands of pounds aaargh!
